Back to School: 40 Schools Fumigated to Combat Culex Mosquito in Tepetitlán, Hidalgo; Work Continues Until August 28

In preparation for the upcoming school year, authorities have initiated fumigation efforts in at least 40 educational institutions in Tepetitlán, Hidalgo. The operation targets the proliferation of the Culex mosquito, a measure taken to ensure a healthier environment for students and staff upon their return to classes.

These fumigation activities are integrated into the broader Master Plan for the Recovery of the Endhó Dam. Mayela Godínez, manager of Water Planning, stated that periodic fumigation has been conducted in riverside communities since May. However, the current focus on schools underscores the urgency of protecting students as the academic term approaches. The work is scheduled to continue until August 28.

The fumigation process employs thermal fogging and is a collaborative effort between the National Water Commission (Conagua) and the municipal government of Tepetitlán. Godínez emphasized that these actions complement interventions at the dam itself and ground-level efforts in homes, streets, and public spaces within the affected communities. Conagua remains committed to monitoring the recovery plan and addressing conditions that impact residents, including the persistent issue of the Culex mosquito.
