Badejo-Okusanya Accepts NBA Presidency, Vows Integrity and Inclusivity

Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya has formally accepted her victory in the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) presidential election, vowing to lead the organization with integrity and a commitment to inclusivity. The election, which concluded Sunday after a 24-hour electronic voting period, saw Badejo-Okusanya emerge as the sole female candidate to win the top post.

Badejo-Okusanya garnered 12,317 votes, representing 47.18% of the total 26,106 ballots cast. She defeated her two male challengers, Mr. Akangbe, who secured 7,934 votes (30.39%), and Olumuyiwa Akinboro, who received 5,855 votes (22.43%). The election results for the presidential position and 12 other national offices were officially announced by the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) Chairman, Aham Ejelam, SAN, in Abuja.

In her acceptance statement, shared via social media, Badejo-Okusanya expressed gratitude to lawyers and her campaign team for their support and belief in her vision of "A Bolder Bar That Works for Everyone." She pledged to foster inclusive leadership and enhance the welfare of NBA members. She also extended congratulations to her fellow presidential candidates, acknowledging their contribution to enriching the democratic process and expressing a desire to collaborate with them for the association's benefit.

Several other national officers were also elected, including Oghenero Okoro as first vice-president, Egya Nuhu John as second vice-president, and Pepple Irene as third vice-president. Adam Okeke was elected general secretary, Aghogho Gladys Okpomor as assistant general secretary, and Esther Ifeoma Jimoh as treasurer. The elections also saw Audrey Chinelo Ofoegbunam elected welfare secretary, Prince I. Azubuike as publicity secretary, and Uwomano Anthony Junior Aki as assistant public secretary. Additionally, three representatives were elected for the General Council of the Bar: Chidi Betsy Nnaji (Eastern Zone), Rotimi Komolafe (Western Zone), and Huwaila Muhammad Ibrahim (Northern Zone).
