In a statement posted on their website, the association described the students' actions as a direct violation of sportsmanship and a failure to uphold basic values of respect and consideration for others. They specifically apologized to the players of Gwangju Jeil High School, acknowledging the insult and hurt caused to athletes who competed fairly. The association also expressed regret to the parents and coaches who witnessed the game, acknowledging the disappointment and anger the incident provoked.
