Baejae School Alumni Submit Petition for Baseball Team's Disciplinary Action

The Baejae School Alumni Association has submitted a petition to the Baseball Softball Association, urging leniency for the Baejae High School baseball team. The team is facing disciplinary measures after making inappropriate remarks towards the opposing team during a recent game.

We appeal with the hearts of seniors and fathers. We ask for your leniency so that these students, who are like sons and juniors to us, can learn from this experience and grow into more mature individuals.

Kim Dong-yeon, the 39th president of the Baejae School Alumni Association, personally submitted the petition to the association's mailbox at the Olympic Hall in Songpa-gu, Seoul, on Thursday. He then read the petition aloud at the building's entrance. Initially, the alumni association planned to hold an emergency press conference to appeal for the students' leniency. However, after discussions with parents and other stakeholders, they decided to proceed only with the petition submission.

Kim explained that parents did not join the press conference because they believed it was more appropriate for them to acknowledge their children's wrongdoing and seek forgiveness first. He stated, "If the alumni association steps in first, the intention could be distorted." In the petition, Kim expressed sincere apologies to the Gwangju Jeil High School students and alumni who were hurt by the incident during the Cheongryonggi tournament. He acknowledged the significant responsibility of properly guiding and teaching junior students.

The petition emphasizes that a single mistake should serve as a lifelong lesson. The Baejae High School baseball team is scheduled to visit Gwangju Jeil High School on Friday to offer their apologies. The principal of Gwangju Jeil High School confirmed that they have agreed to receive the apology from the approximately 80 members of the Baejae High School baseball team, including students, coaches, parents, and staff. The visit will also include a joint visit to the May 18th National Cemetery to symbolize reconciliation and a fresh start.
