Bali Police Seize 1.7 Kg Ganja, Methamphetamine; Arrest Man from Medan

Bali Police have thwarted a significant drug trafficking operation in Jimbaran, arresting a man identified as YPS from Medan. The Directorate of Narcotics Investigation of the Bali Regional Police seized 1.7 kilograms of marijuana and 102 grams of methamphetamine.

The operation began after police received a tip from the public on Sunday regarding suspected drug transactions on Jalan Jimbaran. Responding to the information, the police conducted a surveillance operation and observed a man exhibiting suspicious behavior. Upon apprehension and initial questioning, the man was identified as YPS.

A subsequent search of his rented room and belongings, witnessed by two local residents, uncovered a black backpack. Inside the backpack, officers found 18 clear plastic packages containing marijuana, with a gross weight of 1,750.90 grams and a net weight of 1,696.24 grams. Additionally, two clear plastic packages with methamphetamine, weighing 104.06 grams gross and 102.14 grams net, were discovered.

Authorities also seized other items, including a bundle of clear plastic clips, 10 packs of rolling papers, and a silver Oppo Reno 8 mobile phone. The total weight of the seized narcotics approaches 1.8 kilograms. YPS and the confiscated evidence were taken to the Bali Regional Police's Narcotics Directorate for further legal proceedings.

Under Indonesian law, YPS is charged under Article 114, Paragraph (2), in conjunction with Article 112, Paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics. This charge carries a minimum prison sentence of five years and a maximum of 20 years, or the death penalty.

Bali Police Commissioner Pol. Ariasandy reiterated the department's commitment to eradicating drug trafficking in Bali and urged the public to actively report any suspicious activities. "Bali Police are committed to eradicating drug trafficking to its roots. Do not hesitate to report to 110 or the nearest police station. Together, we will save the younger generation from the dangers of drugs," Ariasandy stated.
