Baltic bikers face sentences for arson, assault, and illegal weapons

A Klaipėda court has delivered sentences to three men with ties to a biker club, concluding a case involving arson, assault, and illegal weapons. The convictions stem from a series of incidents that occurred in March and May 2024, highlighting a pattern of violence and intimidation.

One of the key incidents involved the arson of a car in Gargždai, which caused over 9,500 euros in damages and also affected a nearby vehicle. This act was followed by a confrontation where one of the convicted men threatened to burn down a house, accusing the victim of gathering information about the motorcycle club. Separately, another man was convicted for assaulting another individual in public in Klaipėda.

Further complicating the case, police stopped a vehicle carrying three of the convicted men and discovered a high-explosive hand grenade and detonator. A search of one man's residence uncovered a brass knuckle, classified as a prohibited cold weapon. One of the men also attempted to obtain a new passport by falsely reporting his original lost, and was previously convicted for assault in Kaunas.

The court imposed final sentences ranging from suspended prison terms to actual jail time. The most severe sentence was 4 years and 6 months imprisonment for one man, with 1 year and 3 months to be served immediately and the remainder suspended for two years. Other sentences included 1 year and 3 months suspended for two years, and 10 months suspended for one year. All three are required to work and remain at home during their suspended sentence periods, and must pay fines to a fund for crime victims.
