Banda MS dedicates Festival Arre performance to late bandmate Gerson Leos

Before Banda MS took the Hacienda stage as the first day’s headliners at Festival Arre, the group paused to remember Gerson Leos, its fellow musician who died earlier this year.

At a brief news conference before the performance, singers Alan Manuel Ramírez Salcido and Owaldo “Walo” Silvas Carreón spoke about Leos. He died on January 6 after suffering a sudden heart attack while playing in an amateur baseball game at Club Deportivo Sarabia in Mazatlán.

He was invited from day one to come to Mexico to film the official video for ‘Qué maldición,’ but because of the pandemic and everything else, it did not happen.

The singers also discussed Banda MS’s next album, “10 de 10,” due for release on September 11. They said it would include collaborations they regard as among the biggest of their career. Alan said the group had invited Snoop Dogg to Mexico from the beginning to film the official video for “Qué maldición,” but the collaboration did not happen because of the pandemic and other circumstances. Banda MS remains open to working with him again, either at a concert or on another song.

The musicians praised Festival Arre for giving regional Mexican performers from across the country an opportunity to appear before large audiences. Banda MS was scheduled to play for just over an hour at midnight, closing the first of the festival’s two days at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
