Bandar Lampung Sprays Roads Covered by Anak Krakatau Ash

Bandar Lampung officials began spraying water on major roads after volcanic ash from Anak Krakatau settled across the city.

The operation started on Saturday, with the Regional Disaster Management Agency and the city’s firefighting and rescue service deployed to wet ash covering road surfaces. Mayor Eva Dwiana said the measure aimed to reduce ash being blown into the air and disturbing residents and road users.

Officials were also collecting information at the subdistrict level to map where the ash had spread. Eva said the data would guide the government’s next response, while firefighting chief Antoni Irawan described the spraying as a step to reduce the effects of airborne ash.

We hope this spraying can reduce the Anak Krakatau volcanic ash being blown around and disturbing the public and road users.

Indonesia’s Geological Agency recorded another Anak Krakatau eruption at 3:53 a.m. on Sunday. The eruption registered a maximum seismic amplitude of 46 millimeters and lasted 30 seconds, according to the agency. It recommended that residents, visitors, tourists and climbers stay at least three kilometers from the active crater.

The volcano’s activity had also affected at least 33 flights at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport by 10 p.m. on September 5, 2026.
