Anak Krakatau Eruption Has Not Disrupted Residents’ Outdoor Activities, South Lampung BPBD Says

Anak Krakatau continues to erupt, but South Lampung authorities say the activity has not stopped residents from going about their lives outside their homes.

The volcano is now at Level III, or Alert status. Maturidi, head of the South Lampung Regional Disaster Management Agency, urged people to stay calm while increasing their vigilance. He said the eruptions remained ongoing after volcanic activity intensified on Friday.

The current condition of Anak Krakatau is safe. Although it sometimes still erupts, it does not affect residents’ activities outside their homes.

The eruptions produced incandescent lava fountains estimated at 100 to 400 meters above the crater. Data from the Darwin Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre put the ash column at Flight Level 480, or about 14.6 kilometers above sea level. Winds in the upper atmosphere carried the ash westward.

The disaster agency said it was closely tracking the volcano and coordinating with subdistrict and village governments, as well as volcanology officers at the Anak Krakatau observation post in Hargo Pancuran. Disaster-resilient villages in Rajabasa and Sebesi Island also remained active as part of preparedness efforts. Authorities warned fishermen and tourists not to approach within three kilometers of the active crater.
