Oyedepo to govt: Preaching on bus not the issue, address insecurity

Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, has sharply criticized a proposed amendment to the Federal Road Safety Corps Act that would impose a ₦50,000 fine for preaching in commercial buses. Oyedepo argued that the government's focus is misplaced, urging them to instead tackle the pervasive insecurity plaguing Nigeria.

During a recent sermon, a video of which gained traction online, Oyedepo stated that divine justice is imminent for those involved in sponsoring killings. "Woe to all destructive agents in Nigeria. Whether in power or out of power, judgement has finally come," he declared. He expressed his refusal to pray for those he believes are responsible for the violence, stating, "I pray against you, against your household, against your generation, in the name of Jesus."

The cleric questioned the government's silence on the ongoing killings, asking, "I have not heard any statement from government quarters against the killings. I’m yet to hear one, sir. Our human life is not of value anymore?" He contrasted this with the proposed fine for preaching, asking, "And now you mustn’t preach in the bus, is that an issue?"

Oyedepo, who stated he had remained silent for a long time, believes that divine intervention is on the horizon. "When you see God keep quiet at the wickedness of the wicked, it’s because the bubble is about to burst," he warned. He concluded by asserting, "As the Lord lives… this bubble will burst. Go and hide anywhere. The bubble will burst."
