Bandung Police Receive Numerous Reports of Rising Robbery Cases

Bandung police have confirmed receiving numerous public reports about an increase in "begal" incidents, a form of street robbery, across the city. The nature of these crimes has also shifted, with occurrences now happening daily rather than being confined to weekends.

We from the Polrestabes Bandung are responding to the input from the people of Bandung, where begal actions are starting to become rampant again in the City of Bandung.

Wakapolrestabes Bandung AKBP Dedi Wahyudi stated that the police are responding to community feedback regarding the resurgence of street crime. In response, the force is intensifying night patrols, particularly during the early morning hours, which are considered high-risk periods. Each sub-precinct has deployed a minimum of four to five officers to patrol vulnerable locations.

Wahyudi assured the public that the police will take "firm and measured action" against the perpetrators of these crimes. He encouraged residents to go about their evening activities without fear and to contact the emergency number 110 if they encounter any trouble. The "Prabu" team has also been mobilized to swiftly address these reports.

Alhamdulillah, every sub-precinct is guarding at least around 4-5 points. Especially at night, particularly during high-risk hours, early morning hours, we are intensifying patrols to be even better.

Recent months have seen several arrests related to begal activities. In early May, two individuals were apprehended for robbing a package courier. Mid-June saw the arrest of two suspects involved in a knife-wielding attack on an online motorcycle taxi driver. More recently, on July 14, three suspects were arrested within two hours for robbing a resident using a debt collector ruse. Another man was robbed of his phone on July 16, with one suspect apprehended.
