Bangka Belitung to Host Durian Festival in July 2026

The Bangka Belitung provincial government is preparing to host a Durian Festival in West Bangka in July 2026, aiming to attract domestic tourists during the school holiday period. The event is designed to showcase the region's renowned durian varieties and stimulate the local economy.

Wydia Kemala Sari, head of the Bangka Belitung Department of Tourism, Culture, and Youth Sports, announced the festival will take place in Pelangas Village. She highlighted the festival's potential to draw tourists, particularly durian enthusiasts, to sample the unique flavors of Bangka Belitung's fruit.

The province boasts prized durian varieties, including Namlung, also known as Cumasi, famous for its rich taste and single seed per segment, fetching prices around 300,000 Indonesian rupiah per kilogram. Another popular variety is Tembaga, characterized by its buttery texture and sweet flavor.

Beyond promoting durian consumption, the festival is expected to bolster the economy for local durian farmers and the wider community. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore Bangka Island's diverse attractions, encompassing culinary, natural, and cultural tourism, offering a comprehensive experience beyond the fruit itself.
