Bangkok named world's best city for nightlife, topping Berlin and New York

Bangkok has claimed the title of the world's best city for nightlife in 2026, according to a new ranking by Time Out magazine. The vibrant Thai capital surpassed established nightlife hubs like Berlin and New York in the annual assessment.

The prestigious ranking is the result of an extensive global survey involving more than 24,000 residents from 150 cities. Participants evaluated their city's nightlife scene based on criteria including quality, diversity, affordability, safety, inclusivity, and ease of making new connections. Bangkok's success was underscored by a high satisfaction rate, with 73 percent of residents rating their city's nightlife as "good" or "amazing," and an equal percentage confirming the ease of finding a community.

Time Out's editorial team also contributed positive assessments, giving Bangkok's scene a 95 percent approval rating. The city's victory is attributed to its remarkable diversity, offering far more than just large clubs. Bangkok's nightlife encompasses chic rooftop bars, hidden cocktail lounges, bustling street food scenes, and a prominent LGBTQ+ presence, providing a comprehensive experience that allows for seamless transitions from upscale venues to casual neighborhood spots, even late into the night.

Following Bangkok, Berlin secured the second position, reinforcing its reputation as a European entertainment capital. Despite its famed underground techno clubs, 78 percent of Berlin residents highlighted the city's casual bars and pubs as its strongest offerings. New York City ranked third, praised by locals for its "exciting" and "diverse" scene, though its high cost of living was noted, with only 40 percent finding it affordable. Melbourne and São Paulo completed the top five, while other European cities like Brighton (eighth) and Amsterdam (tenth) also made the top ten.
