Bangladesh Parliament Forms Six Standing Committees

Bangladesh's parliament has established six new parliamentary standing committees to oversee key ministries, including home, foreign, commerce, industries, water resources, and Liberation War affairs. The formation of these committees was announced on Monday evening.

Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, acting with the consent of Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman, proposed the members for each committee. The proposals were subsequently passed by voice vote in the parliament. This move signifies a structured approach to legislative oversight of governmental functions.

Notably, Members of Parliament from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have been appointed to head each of these standing committees. Md Monirul Haque Chowdhury, a BNP MP from Cumilla-6 constituency, will lead the committee on the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs. Similarly, BNP MPs Md Abul Kalam, Jahrat Adib Chowdhury, Md Khaled Hossain Mahboob, Mohammad Shofiqul Haque Milon, and Zainul Abedin will head the committees for industries, foreign affairs, commerce, water resources, and home affairs, respectively.
