Banjarmasin Traffic Police Apprehend 20 for Violations to Curb Street Racing

The Banjarmasin City Traffic Police in South Kalimantan apprehended 20 individuals for traffic violations during early morning patrols conducted between midnight and 4 a.m. on Saturday. The operation focused on key thoroughfares to decisively curb the prevalent and disruptive issue of illegal street racing, which poses a significant threat to the safety of road users.

Patrols concentrated on three areas identified as prone to such activities: Jalan Ahmad Yani, Jalan Pramuka, and Jalan KH Basri. Beyond enforcement, officers also engaged in educating and appealing to drivers to adhere to traffic regulations, aiming to prevent the emergence of street racing.

Every form of violation has the potential to endanger other road users. Therefore, we urge the public to comply with the rules, including not using the road as a parking space.

During the operation, police utilized both manual ticketing and the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) Handheld system. Eight violations, primarily involving parking on roadways and sidewalks, were addressed using ETLE Handheld. The remaining 12 violations resulted in manual tickets. AKP Embang Pramono highlighted that indiscriminate parking obstructs traffic flow and increases accident risks, especially during nighttime and early morning hours.

These routine patrols are part of the Banjarmasin traffic police's strategy to foster a safe and orderly traffic environment and to restrict the activities of street racers. Officers also humanely reminded drivers to use safety equipment, obey traffic signs, and avoid dangerous actions. Pramono affirmed that patrols in high-risk hours would continue to anticipate street racing and other violations, urging public cooperation in maintaining order.
