Bank Indonesia to Implement 0% MDR for QRIS Transactions from October 2026

Bank Indonesia (BI) announced that it will implement a 0 percent Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) for Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) transactions nationwide starting October 1, 2026. The central bank unveiled this policy expansion during the commemoration of Indonesia's 81st Independence Day.

This initiative is designed to further promote the adoption and usage of the QRIS payment system among merchants throughout the archipelago. By eliminating the MDR, BI aims to reduce the cost burden for businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, encouraging them to accept digital payments more readily.
