Bar owner arrested for domestic violence after deadly fire

Jacques Moretti, a co-owner of the bar "Le Constellation" in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana, has been arrested and is in pretrial detention for domestic violence. The incident occurred just months after a devastating fire at the establishment on New Year's Eve claimed the lives of 41 people and injured 115 others.

According to Swiss broadcasters Léman Bleu and RTS, Moretti allegedly assaulted his wife so severely that she required hospitalization. Swiss public broadcaster SRF reported that Moretti was arrested eleven days prior to the news report. The couple's lawyers stated that the accusations pertain "exclusively to the private life" of the couple.

Moretti and other bar owners are currently under investigation for negligent homicide, negligent bodily harm, and negligent arson in connection with the fatal fire. Moretti's wife, also a co-owner, has additionally been accused of document forgery. The investigation into the fire's cause and the owners' potential culpability is ongoing.
