Barcelona Ice Cream Shop Channels Donations for Colombia Earthquake Relief

In Barcelona, an ice cream shop has transformed into a hub for humanitarian aid, channeling donations for those affected by the devastating earthquake in Colombia. Antojería Mix, located in the Eixample district, is now serving as an impromptu collection center for essential supplies.

The shop's owner, Laura Soto, who hails from Pereira, one of the areas hardest hit by the earthquake, felt compelled to act despite the physical distance. While her family was fortunate to escape with minimal damage, she expressed deep empathy for the thousands of compatriots facing a critical situation.

Soto explained that the initiative gained momentum through social media, inspired by influencers and friends. "We offered our space because we have the capacity to store things," she told EFE, highlighting the spontaneous nature of the community's response. The shop, situated on Carrer de Diputació, 188, will continue collecting items until Sunday.

Inside the establishment, bags filled with tools, pet food, clothing, gloves, blankets, and sanitary and hygiene products are piled high, all contributed by citizens. "Those of us who are far away, unable to help as we would like, are taking this initiative. It's our small contribution," Soto reflected. Other collection points have also been established in Barcelona, Badalona, and Coma-ruga to support the relief efforts.
