Barcelona, Man City reach agreement for midfielder Rodri

Barcelona has reached an agreement in principle to sign Manchester City midfielder Rodri for a total package of 76.5 million pounds (65.3 million USD). This marks Barcelona's third bid for the player after previous offers failed. Sources confirmed that paperwork has been exchanged, and the deal is being finalized.

Rodri, 30, is expected to arrive in Barcelona in the coming days and could be presented before Wednesday's Joan Gamper Trophy match against Al Ahly at Camp Nou. His potential arrival follows that of fullback Joao Cancelo, and they could be Barcelona's fourth and fifth signings of the season. The club is also seeking a striker.

Rodri was not initially a target, but Barcelona pursued the opportunity after he made himself available following Spain's FIFA World Cup victory. A long-term injury to Frenkie de Jong also prompted Barcelona to explore new midfield options. Although Real Madrid also attempted to sign Rodri, the player reportedly preferred Barcelona.

Rodri is considered a marquee signing for Barcelona. He joined Manchester City in 2019 and has since won four Premier League titles and a Champions League. He also has European Championship and FIFA World Cup titles with Spain, earning 'Player of the Tournament' honors in both national team triumphs. His success also led to him winning the Ballon d'Or in 2024.
