Barcelona outskirts evacuated as forest fire rages

Firefighters battled a forest and bush fire on the northern outskirts of Barcelona on Tuesday, prompting authorities to order the evacuation of the nearest homes. Strong smoke plumes led to the evacuation of about 25 residents in the Torre Baró district. Other residents in Torre Baró and the neighboring Ciutat Meridiana were advised to stay inside and keep windows and doors closed.

The blaze ignited Tuesday afternoon in the Serra de Collserola, a wooded, mountainous area bordering Torre Baró. The cause of the fire remains unknown. The fire service reported on the platform X that 160 firefighters, supported by twelve water-bombing planes and helicopters, were engaged in combating the flames. So far, the fire has consumed approximately 35 hectares of land.

This incident marks a recurrence of wildfires in the area, as a similar fire occurred just a week and a half prior in the vicinity. In August 2026, a firefighting helicopter was deployed to combat a wildfire in the same Serra de Collserola range.
