Barcelona overwhelm Rayo Vallecano with five-goal display

Barcelona produced a five-goal performance at Camp Nou, beating Rayo Vallecano 5-2 after an early setback and a second-half challenge from the visitors.

Rayo opened the scoring on a counterattack. Álvaro García broke through on the left and crossed for Sergio Camello, who moved ahead of Andreas Christensen and struck the ball into the net. The goal did little to slow Barcelona’s attack.

Raphinha equalized before the 20-minute mark after a flowing move released him in front of goal. Lamine Yamal then put Barcelona ahead with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Barcelona extended its lead shortly after halftime when Florian Lejeune turned Anthony Gordon’s cross into his own goal. Camello pulled one back with a headed corner, but the home side responded by increasing the pace.

Gordon, making an active contribution from the left wing, helped create Barcelona’s fourth goal. He freed Raphinha with a backheel 20 minutes from time, allowing the Brazilian to score his second. Yamal completed the victory in stoppage time with a low shot from the edge of the area that beat an overworked Dani Cárdenas.

The result gave Barcelona a third win in three matches, matching Real Madrid’s earlier record. Christensen started and marked his 100th appearance in Barcelona’s defense, although the team’s biggest impression came in attack.
