Barcelona Sells Midfielder Tommy Marqués to Braga, Retains Buy-Back Option

FC Barcelona has finalized the transfer of young midfielder Tommy Marqués to Portuguese club Sporting Braga. The Catalan giants have secured key clauses in the deal, retaining both a buy-back option and a percentage of any future sale of the 19-year-old talent.

While the exact transfer fee remains undisclosed by the clubs, sources close to the operation indicate that Braga paid a fixed sum of eleven million euros, with an additional one million tied to individual and collective performance objectives. Barcelona will also benefit from 20% of any future transfer fee, and their buy-back option is reportedly set at 60 million euros.

Marqués, who joined Barcelona's youth academy eleven years ago, made his first-team debut in February 2026 and appeared in two official matches last season. However, with eight midfielders currently in the first-team squad, including Gavi, Pedri, and Frenkie de Jong, his opportunities for significant playing time under new coach Hansi Flick were deemed minimal. He now joins former Barcelona teammate Pau Víctor at Braga, who was transferred last summer for approximately 12 million euros.
