Barranquilla car race to donate profits to earthquake victims

The upcoming Pony Malta Circuit car event in Barranquilla, Colombia, will transform into a major humanitarian effort, dedicating all its profits to aid families affected by a recent devastating earthquake. The event, scheduled for August 16 at the Gran Malecón, is a collaborative initiative between the Mayor's Office of Barranquilla, Pony Malta, and Bavaria.

Beyond the planned automotive exhibitions and activities, the event will now feature a strong humanitarian component. Two minutes of silence will be observed in memory of the earthquake victims. Additionally, collection points will be established at the venue to gather essential aid and supplies destined for the regions most severely impacted by the seismic event.

"Colombia needs us united. From the Mayor's Office of Barranquilla, together with Pony Malta and Bavaria, we will have an opportunity this Sunday to show that the people of Barranquilla and Colombians know how to be present when we need each other most," stated Mayor Alejandro Char. Sergio Rincón, president of Bavaria, emphasized the company's decision to make the event a platform for solidarity, stating, "Today Colombia is going through a very difficult time. We have decided to transform the Pony Malta Circuit into the Colombia Circuit and allocate 100% of the event's profits to support the emergency response and the recovery of the affected communities."

Barranquilla is preparing to host over 10,000 attendees for the event, which will feature a temporary urban circuit for speed demonstrations and displays of representative vehicles from Colombian and international motorsport. The organizers have suspended the sale of new tickets since August 10 to focus resources on reconstruction and aid efforts for those impacted by the earthquake.
