Barrio Nuevo residents demand more police patrols after fatal stabbing

Residents of Barrio Nuevo in Santo Domingo Oeste are calling for enhanced police presence after a violent incident early Sunday morning resulted in the death of Daniel Santana, 40, near the Casandra Damirón Primary School.

Santana sustained multiple stab wounds following an altercation during a domino game at a local car wash. Preliminary reports indicate the dispute escalated, leading to the fatal attack. The National Police have identified three suspects in connection with the incident: Jefferson Díaz, known as 'Papito'; Wilmer, alias 'La Percha'; and Isaac. Authorities are actively searching for them.

Locals describe a pervasive sense of insecurity, citing an increase in armed robberies and assaults, particularly in areas like La Ciénaga. Amanda Matos, a resident, lamented the lack of visible police patrols, stating, "Police patrols are not seen. You don't see a police officer anywhere near here." She noted that criminals often target pedestrians on the streets, even in broad daylight, frequently using motorcycles.

Luz Feliz, who lives near the crime scene, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the need for greater security to ensure community peace. Bacilio Matos proposed the establishment of a dedicated police outpost for Barrio Nuevo, as the nearest station is in Manoguayabo, highlighting the distance and potential response delays.
