Pre-trial detention for suspect in Melanie Stacy Castillo's death

A Dominican court has ordered three months of pre-trial detention for Rubelly Solimán Herrera, who is accused in the death of 24-year-old Melanie Stacy Castillo Diñó. The incident occurred on July 13 in Higüey.

Herrera will serve her detention at the public jail in Colón, Higüey. The decision was made by the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of La Altagracia.

Carlos Martínez, the attorney representing Castillo Diñó's family, stated that the measure is appropriate given the gravity of the case and the early stage of the investigation. He noted that further inquiries are necessary to precisely establish how the event unfolded and the extent of each involved person's responsibility.

Loren Diñó, Melanie's sister, voiced her satisfaction with the court's ruling. She expressed hope that the investigation will fully clarify the circumstances surrounding her sister's death and ensure that those responsible face legal consequences. The family is grappling with the profound emotional impact of Melanie's death, particularly on her young child, and is seeking psychological support to cope with their grief.
