Baseball: Kuo Chih-hui proposed establishing a sixth professional team years ago, says other directors didn't fully agree

Kuo Chih-hui, former minister of economic affairs, is seeking the chairmanship of the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association, bringing renewed attention to his long-standing ambition to establish a sixth professional baseball team in Taiwan.

Kuo revealed that his proposal for a sixth team, made over 15 years ago, faced internal opposition from other board members. After careful evaluation of the substantial resources required for a professional team's long-term operation, the plan ultimately did not proceed. He expressed his regrets to the fans for this outcome.

Despite the failed team proposal, Kuo emphasized his continuous involvement in baseball over the years. He disclosed an annual investment of nearly NT$50 million in the sport, funding everything from establishing corporate amateur teams to implementing sports science and data systems. His investment company, All-Win Sports, has also been instrumental in data collection and analysis for the national team, notably contributing to the scouting efforts behind Taiwan's victory in the Premier12 tournament last year.
