Basketball: Fubon Braves to compete in 3x3 league, coach Cheng Li-huan to play first leg

The Taiwan 3x3 League (T3X), a new domestic competition, has been launched by the 3x3 Basketball Association to cultivate the growth of 3x3 basketball within Taiwan. The association aims to establish a stable competition environment to encourage more players to specialize in the 3x3 format.

We have selected players who are more suitable for 3x3, who are tall, can shoot from outside, and can switch defensively. This is the current international trend.

The inaugural season will showcase a strong lineup, including Taiwan's top professional 3x3 teams, Taipei Fubon Braves and Kaohsiung Chunghwa Kings, along with the national 3x3 training squads. International participation is also a key feature, with teams from Singapore and Hong Kong set to compete.

Notably, Cheng Li-huan, a coach for the P. LEAGUE+ team Fubon Braves, will step in as a player-coach for the first leg of the tournament. He expressed that the team is evaluating the potential for establishing a professional 3x3 team, using this league as an opportunity to assess its viability and consider future participation in point-ranking events.

We are observing whether to establish a professional team through this competition. We want to use this opportunity to see if it is suitable for development.

The first leg of the T3X league is scheduled to take place from August 8-9 at the Taipei 101 Water Dance Plaza, with a prize of NT$100,000 for the winning team. Subsequent legs will be held in Taichung and Kaohsiung, with the final leg offering a grand prize of NT$200,000 and a chance to compete in the FIBA 3x3 Challenger international tournament.

3x3 inherently does not allow coaches to be on the sidelines during the game. After training, the players must perform on their own.
