Basketball: MBC starts European Cup season against Bristol at home

Syntainics MBC is set to launch its European North Basketball League (ENBL) campaign with a home game against the Bristol Flyers on October 13. This marks the beginning of a season that features a revised competition format and ambitious goals for the German club.

The ENBL has been restructured for the upcoming season, reducing the number of participating teams from 26 to 18. The top four teams from two nine-team groups will advance to the quarterfinals, where they will compete in two-legged ties to qualify for the Final Four.

This is an exciting field of participants with a great range of countries and different basketball philosophies. We meet old acquaintances like Kapfenberg and Bristol. And strong new opponents like Jonava from the great basketball nation Lithuania or Tindastoll from Iceland, which has signed some big names.

MBC's sporting director, Silvano Poropat, expressed enthusiasm for the "exciting field of participants" which includes a diverse range of countries and basketball philosophies. He noted familiar opponents like Kapfenberg and Bristol, alongside strong new contenders such as Jonava from Lithuania and Tindastoll from Iceland. Poropat stated that qualifying for the quarterfinals is the team's primary intermediate goal.

Last season, MBC hosted the Final Four but experienced an unexpected semifinal exit, eventually securing third place. The team's performance in this new format will be closely watched as they aim to build on past successes and navigate the challenges of a more condensed European competition.
