Baskonia nearing deal with A.J. Lawson

Spanish basketball club Baskonia is reportedly nearing a significant acquisition for the upcoming season, having reached an agreement with American guard A.J. Lawson, according to Spanish media reports.

The Basque team is set to bolster its backcourt with a player who brings experience from the highest level of competition. Lawson, a 26-year-old guard, has previously played in the NBA for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Dallas Mavericks, and Toronto Raptors.

Spanish journalist Chema de Lucas reported that Baskonia, managed by Paolo Galbiati, has finalized a deal with the Canadian player, who also holds a Jamaican passport. Lawson is expected to join the team in Vitoria to become one of Baskonia's new options in the EuroLeague.

Standing at 1.98 meters (6 feet 6 inches), Lawson has played in 107 NBA games. Last season, he split time between the Toronto Raptors and their G League team, the Raptors 905. In his 24 NBA appearances, he averaged 4.2 points and 1.8 rebounds in 9.4 minutes per game, shooting an impressive 42.2% from three-point range.

His performance in the G League was even more notable, where he emerged as a key player for the Raptors 905. He concluded the season averaging 20.8 points, 5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1 steal per game, demonstrating his potential to contribute significantly on both ends of the court.
