Bauchi police arrest four over two separate homicide cases

The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended four suspects in connection with two distinct culpable homicide incidents that resulted in the deaths of two individuals across the state. The arrests highlight ongoing efforts to address violent crimes within the region.

The victim sustained multiple injuries and was immediately rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for medical attention. Unfortunately, the medical doctor on duty confirmed him dead on arrival.

In the first case, a 45-year-old resident reported that a 21-year-old suspect, Al-Amin Hamisu Gidado, allegedly stabbed 25-year-old Zahradeen Dan’Azumi Tanko. The incident, which occurred on July 25, led to the victim sustaining multiple injuries. He was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Police have arrested the primary suspect and are actively searching for an accomplice, Yahaya Mu’azu, who is currently at large. Preliminary investigations have been completed, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further action.

The second incident involved the death of 51-year-old Monday Chiroma, whose body was discovered on July 21. Preliminary findings suggest that on July 20, a group of suspects attacked Chiroma and another individual, Yelwa Bango, based on accusations of witchcraft. The alleged witchcraft targeted a 20-year-old woman, Jamila Anthony, who later died while receiving medical treatment. Both victims of the alleged vigilante attack were taken to the hospital, where Chiroma was confirmed dead, and Bango was admitted for treatment.

The attack was reportedly carried out on the suspicion that the victims were responsible for bewitching one Jamila Anthony, a 20-year-old female who later died while receiving treatment at a hospital in Gudun Hausawa, Bauchi.

Operatives from E-Division swiftly arrested three suspects in connection with the witchcraft-related killing: Danjuma Anthony, 25; Ayuba Anthony, 22, also known as Babaru; and Christopher Adamu, 34. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement. The police have assured the public that efforts are underway, in collaboration with local security operatives and community members, to apprehend any remaining individuals involved in the incident.
