Osun SSG regains freedom after police raid, detention

Teslim Igbalaiye, the Secretary to the Osun State Government, has been released by the state police command following his arrest and detention. The release was confirmed by the spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, who expressed appreciation to the Inspector General of Police and the Osun State Commissioner of Police for responding to the public demand.

We sincerely appreciate the Inspector General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, for listening to the voice of reason despite pressure and for responding to the people’s demand regarding the unlawful arrest of the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Igbalaye Teslim.

Olajengbesi stated that the Nigerian Police Force serves the nation best when it stands against oppression and upholds justice and the rule of law. He welcomed Igbalaiye back, acknowledging his courage and sacrifice for the people of Osun State.

The PUNCH reports that Igbalaiye and five other individuals were arrested and detained after a raid on his residence in Osogbo on Wednesday. The police identified one of the arrested individuals as Oladele Abiodun, a suspect on the police watchlist for criminal offenses. During the raid, the police recovered a sum of N4,810,500, two permanent voter cards, a voter register, a Dynabook laptop, a photocopy machine, and a printer from Igbalaiye’s residence.

The police stated that the raid was conducted based on intelligence indicating that criminal gangs were using the location as a hideout. The other individuals arrested alongside Igbalaiye were identified as Akande Taiwo, Adeyemo Lukman, Olaoye Muftau, and Aderemi Musliu. Following the arrests, members of the governor's campaign team had demanded the immediate release of the SSG and others, alleging that over 86 members had been detained without lawful basis.
