Bauchi State disburses N625 million in startup grants to 1,250 youths and women

Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has launched the disbursement of 625 million Nigerian naira (approximately $420,000 USD) in startup grants to 1,250 young people and women. The initiative aims to stimulate agricultural production and promote agribusiness across all 20 local government areas of the state.

During the official presentation of the grants in Tafawa Balewa, Governor Mohammed announced that each recipient would receive 500,000 naira to start their chosen agricultural ventures. He stated that the program is designed to tackle unemployment, foster wealth creation, and enhance food security through increased youth involvement in the agricultural sector.

You will recall that in 2021, this administration supported 1,000 youths and women from across the 20 local government areas.

Beneficiaries underwent a two-week intensive practical training program at the International Skills Acquisition Centre (ISAC) at CSS Farms. This training covered various aspects of agriculture and agribusiness, including crop and livestock production, aquaculture, poultry, greenhouse technology, value addition, and enterprise development. The state government fully funded the training, covering tuition, transportation, accommodation, and feeding.

This initiative builds upon a previous program in 2021, where 1,000 youths and women received similar support after completing training. Encouraged by the success of the first phase, the government expanded the program in 2025 to train an additional 1,250 individuals. Governor Mohammed urged the beneficiaries to use the grants wisely to establish sustainable businesses that generate employment and contribute to the state's economic development and food security.
