Be wealth creator, NYSC tells corps members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has implored its corps members to focus on acquiring vocational skills and becoming entrepreneurs, urging them to create employment opportunities rather than solely seeking white-collar jobs after their service year. This directive was issued during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch 'B' Stream II Orientation Course in Jigawa State.

Mohammed Baba, the NYSC Coordinator in Jigawa State, congratulated the new corps members on completing their academic programs and welcomed them to the state, describing Jigawa as the 'New World' known for its rich cultural heritage, hospitality, peace, and industrial potential. He explained that the three-week orientation course is meticulously designed to provide essential physical, mental, and psychological preparation for the service year. The regimented camp environment, he noted, is deliberately structured to foster discipline, resilience, and teamwork among the participants.

Baba reminded the corps members of the significance of the Oath of Allegiance they took, emphasizing it as a profound commitment to serve the fatherland with dedication, humility, and patriotism. He urged them to strictly adhere to all camp rules and regulations. Highlighting the NYSC's Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programs, Baba charged the corps members to engage with the practical training sessions seriously. "Choose a skill set, master it, and prepare yourself to become a wealth creator and employer of labour rather than a job seeker," the Coordinator urged.

Reassuring the corps members of their safety throughout the service year, Baba also cautioned them to remain security conscious. He advised against night journeys, unauthorized movements, and involvement in social vices such as drug abuse, cultism, and partisan politics. Vigilance and awareness of their immediate environment at all times were stressed as crucial responsibilities for collective security.
