Beau Greaves becomes first woman to win a European Tour match

Beau Greaves recovered from a slow start in Prague to make darts history. The 22-year-old beat Daryl Gurney 6-4 at the Czech Open, becoming the first woman to win a match in the European Tour’s 15-year history.

Gurney moved 3-1 ahead, but Greaves responded with three consecutive legs, finishing them in 14, 13 and 11 darts. After Gurney levelled at 4-4, Greaves took the next two legs to secure the victory.

The Doncaster player will meet world number two Luke Humphries in the second round. Greaves said she had faced him on a major stage before and knew she would need to improve, but welcomed the chance to play one of the world’s leading players.

Her latest achievement adds to a growing list of milestones. She became the first woman to win a PDC ranking title when she beat Michael Smith in April, and the first woman to record a nine-dart finish on the PDC ProTour. She has also won the Women’s World Matchplay three times.
