Slovenian National Theatre Nova Gorica is inviting audiences to join a community that thinks critically about war, values life and seeks to live alongside others.

The theater will begin its 2026/2027 season with three autumn premieres. The first, “The Autumn of My Youth,” will draw on letters exchanged by Srečko Kosovel and Fanica Obid. Director Patrizia Jurinčič Finžgar will stage the correspondence as an intimate documentary fairy tale at Epicenter in Nova Gorica.

In the final week of September, the theater’s main stage will return to Kosovel’s life and work with “A Night in Zagorje.” Aleš Berger wrote the text, while artistic director Neda Rusjan Bric will direct the production, described as a stage kaleidoscope of the visionary poet’s work and life.

The second half of October will bring an adaptation of Maja Haderlap’s novel “Women in the Dark” to the small stage. Nina Kuclar Stiković adapted the text, and Brina Klampfer Merčnik will direct the story of three women. A daughter visits her mother in a village in the Podjuna valley to tell her that she must urgently move from the family home. The event opens a mosaic of memories centered on identity, home and belonging.

The theater said the rest of the season would continue in the spirit of the three autumn premieres, with some exceptions that will also offer humor.
