BEDC staff suffers electric shock in Ekiti

A technical staff member of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has been injured following an electrical incident in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. The employee, identified as Akinyemi Bamidele, a technical linesman, suffered burns to his arm and other parts of his body after receiving an electric shock.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening around 6:20 p.m. in the Ado-Poly Satellite Campus area while Bamidele was carrying out maintenance work on an 11kV feeder. He was immediately transported to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical care. BEDC has reported that Bamidele is in a stable condition and responding well to treatment.

BEDC Head of Branding and Corporate Communications, Mrs. Evelyn Gbiwen, confirmed the incident and stated the company's commitment to employee safety and well-being. She assured that BEDC is providing necessary support to the injured staff member. An investigation into the circumstances of the accident has been initiated, with appropriate measures to be taken based on its outcome.
