Belarus builds new railway near Ukraine border for military use

Belarus is expanding its military infrastructure along the border with Ukraine, with recent reports indicating the construction of a new railway branch near the Jakymivka station. This development, located about 40 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, is designed to facilitate the rapid transport and unloading of troops and heavy military equipment directly onto a training ground.

According to the Belarusian railway community and reported by "The Kyiv Independent," the project documents show the railway branch will be able to accommodate up to 60 wagons, equivalent to a military train. The infrastructure will include a platform with ramps for easier unloading of military hardware. The project's client is listed as the Belarusian institute "Voenproekt," with earlier engineering documents mentioning the capital construction department of the Belarusian armed forces.

While the Belarusian railway community emphasizes that the construction does not necessarily signal an immediate preparation for an attack on Ukraine, it significantly enhances the country's capacity to quickly reinforce its forces in the region if needed. This development comes as Kyiv has warned that Moscow might seek to further involve its closest ally in the full-scale war.
