Belcarra Park wildfire latest: 35 homes in Anmore on evacuation alert

Firefighters are actively battling a wildfire that ignited in Belcarra Park, near Port Moody and Anmore, British Columbia. As of Thursday morning, the blaze spans 1.5 hectares and is located near the Sugar Mountain Trail. The fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon.

The Village has activated its Emergency Operations Centre to help support the emergency response, and our staff are working to provide support to the community as needed.

In response to the growing threat, Metro Vancouver has placed 35 properties in the village of Anmore on an evacuation alert. Residents in these areas are urged to be prepared to evacuate at a moment's notice should conditions worsen. This alert follows the precautionary evacuation of two properties on Fern Drive in Anmore on Wednesday afternoon.

I greatly appreciate the Sasamat Volunteer Fire Department, Port Moody Fire Department, Metro Vancouver fire and emergency response staff, including the helicopters, and Coquitlam Search and Rescue who quickly showed up to help with the response.

Anmore's acting mayor, Doug Richardson, confirmed that the village has activated its Emergency Operations Centre to support the emergency response efforts. He expressed gratitude to the Sasamat Volunteer Fire Department, Port Moody Fire Department, Metro Vancouver fire and emergency response staff, including helicopter support, and Coquitlam Search and Rescue for their swift and effective response. Village staff were also commended for their efficiency in implementing the EOC and issuing the evacuation alert.
