Belgian Frigates to Receive Two New Decoy Systems

Belgium’s Defence Ministry will invest €8.4 million in floating decoys for its M-class multipurpose frigates. The systems create a more attractive false target, drawing incoming missiles away from the ships and reducing the risk of a direct hit.

The frigates carry out several military roles, including protecting vessels and vital sea routes, conducting patrols and hunting submarines.

The federal government has also approved the launch of a public procurement process for new exoskeleton tents for the Defence Ministry. The tents will replace current wall tents that have become obsolete after more than 50 years of service.

The contract covers 1,238 exoskeleton tents from 2026 and another 180 in 2028. It also includes a long-term agreement for maintenance, repairs and spare parts. The investment is estimated at €28.7 million excluding VAT, with operating costs of €2.4 million. The total is estimated at €31.1 million including VAT.
