Belgian paraglider missing in Spanish Pyrenees

A Belgian paraglider, aged 56, has been missing since Saturday in the Montsec d'Ares mountain range in Spain's Catalan Pyrenees. His wife, who remained in Belgium, raised the alarm late Saturday evening after not hearing from him for several hours.

An extensive search operation, launched immediately by emergency services, has so far been unsuccessful. Drones and search dogs were deployed throughout Saturday evening and Sunday, but the paraglider remains unaccounted for. The mayor of Agres, Mireia Burgués, assured that all efforts are being made to locate the missing man.

The Belgian man was staying at a campsite in Àger with other paragliders. While it is confirmed he left the campsite with his paraglider, it is not certain whether he actually took off. Emergency services are considering multiple possibilities.

One scenario is that the paraglider ventured further than his usual routes and may have landed in the neighboring Aragon region. Consequently, the search efforts have been coordinated with the Guardia Civil, who are combing the area across the regional border. The missing man is described as an experienced paraglider, and there are no initial indications of any prior health issues. Authorities are focused on locating his paragliding equipment, hoping it will help determine his position.
