Belgium Faces Rising Temperatures, Heat Warning Issued

Belgium is bracing for a return of warm weather, with temperatures set to climb and reach maxima of around 30 degrees Celsius from this weekend. The Royal Meteorological Institute (KMI) has responded by issuing a yellow code for heat, which will be in effect nationwide until midnight on Thursday, August 13. Only the coast will experience milder conditions with a green code on August 10 and 11.

The KMI's yellow code serves as a warning for the upcoming high temperatures. It advises that measures should be taken to protect the elderly and vulnerable populations, recommending increased fluid intake and avoiding direct sunlight. The national ozone and heat plan remains active.

Today, the weather is expected to be warm and sunny, with highs around 25 degrees in the High Fens, 26 degrees at the coast, and up to 29 degrees in the Gaume region. Tomorrow will be even warmer, with temperatures ranging from 27 degrees at the coast and in the High Fens to 30 or 31 degrees in many other areas. The sun will shine, though some high clouds may appear. Similar conditions are expected early next week, with highs around 28-29 degrees inland.

However, a temporary cooling is forecast for Tuesday, with maxima dropping to around 23-24 degrees in most regions, though reaching up to 26 degrees in the far south. By Wednesday, temperatures will rise again, with sunny skies and highs around 27-28 degrees. Forecasts for Thursday and Friday also predict maxima around 30 degrees, although no official warning is currently in place for those days.
