Belgium's One-Year Voluntary Military Service Program Draws Thousands of Applicants

Belgium's initiative to introduce a one-year voluntary military service program has seen an overwhelming response, with around 3,000 applicants vying for just 500 available spots in the first recruitment drive. This high level of interest surpasses initial expectations and signals a renewed engagement among young Belgians with military service.

Successful candidates will undergo basic military training in the army, navy, or air force. They will receive a monthly salary of approximately 2,000 euros (about 3.3 million South Korean won) and will have the option to pursue regular army service or join the reserves upon completion.
