BEM UI Confirms Further Protests Planned Soon

The Student Executive Board (BEM) of Universitas Indonesia (UI) has announced its intention to hold further protests, following a demonstration held at Bundaran HI on Friday. BEM UI Chairman Yatalathof Ma'shum Imawan confirmed that additional actions are planned, though specific dates have not yet been revealed.

Anandaku Dimas, Chairman of the BEM Faculty of Law UI, stated that the student body is currently consolidating its efforts. He expressed the group's commitment to continuing their activism, indicating that a further mobilization is being organized. The recent protest saw a significant turnout of UI students raising concerns over a range of pressing national issues.

The students' demonstrations focus on several key areas: the depreciation of the Indonesian rupiah, the management of the state budget (APBN), increases in fuel prices, and other economic challenges. They have outlined five core demands for the government.

These demands include an immediate halt to perceived wastefulness in the state budget, a reduction in the prices of essential goods and fuel, and the cessation of the MBG program and the 'Koperasi Desa Merah Putih' development. Furthermore, the students call for an end to 'civil militarism' and urge President Prabowo Subianto to cease evading responsibility and acknowledge the government's errors. The students aim to pressure the government to address these critical economic and social issues.
