Ben-Gvir reveals plan to remove Palestinians from Gaza over seven years

Israel’s national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, has presented a seven-year plan to move about two million Palestinians out of the Gaza Strip, describing the proposal as a realistic way to encourage emigration.

According to Ben-Gvir’s office, the initiative would create a dedicated ministry and seek agreements with countries willing to receive Gaza residents. It sets targets of 250,000 departures in the first year, about 1.1 million within three years and roughly 1.9 million within seven years.

The plan comes as Israel’s attacks on Gaza continue. Defense Minister Israel Katz has also argued that there can be “no real solution for Gaza without this migration.” He said the Israeli government was organised and ready to remove Palestinians by sea, air or any available means.

Katz has said Israel is seeking Donald Trump’s support. In his view, U.S. backing would help persuade neighbouring countries to accept Palestinians from Gaza. “Every country willing to take them wants American support,” Katz said. “Trump has not cancelled it at this point. He has only postponed it.”

Trump discussed a possible U.S. takeover of Gaza in early 2025, including the relocation of Palestinians, but later stepped back from the idea. A 20-point White House peace plan from the previous year did not include deportation provisions. The proposed removal of Gaza’s population has been widely criticised as potentially amounting to ethnic cleansing and a war crime. The White House had not immediately responded to questions about whether Trump was still discussing the proposal.
