Benue candidate urges non-partisan approach to insecurity

Michael Aondoakaa, a 2027 governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State, has called for an end to the politicization of insecurity, stressing that the protection of lives and property must transcend political divides.

Aondoakaa made these remarks during a visit to the Abaashwa community in Guma Local Government Area, which recently suffered an attack by suspected armed herders. The assault resulted in several deaths and injuries. He condemned the violence as "deeply painful and unacceptable" and offered condolences to the affected families.

The candidate acknowledged President Bola Tinubu's approval of establishing an Army Division in Makurdi and a brigade in Gboko, along with measures to improve military welfare. However, he urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing crucial information. Aondoakaa also paid tribute to former Governor Samuel Ortom for his efforts in protecting the state, particularly the 2017 law prohibiting open grazing.

He emphasized that combating insecurity requires a united front, calling on political leaders, traditional rulers, community leaders, and security agencies to collaborate irrespective of their political affiliations. Aondoakaa also advocated for broader consultations, suggesting that the government should leverage the experience of former governors and other individuals knowledgeable about Benue's specific security challenges. The acting Tyoor of Nzorov, Zaki Emmanuel Atoka, and the President of the Nzorov Development Association, Kenneth Pool, both thanked Aondoakaa for his support during the community's time of grief.
