Benue Governor Boosts Security with Military Units, Donates Patrol Motorcycles

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia is bolstering security in the Sankera axis by establishing three new military operational units. These units will be stationed at Agu in Katsina-Ala, Anyiin in Logo, and Azendeshi in Ukum. To further aid security efforts, the governor donated 30 motorcycles to security agencies in Katsina-Ala, Ukum, and Logo local government areas.

Alia made these announcements during a town hall meeting in Katsina-Ala with stakeholders from the Sankera political bloc. The governor is currently on a statewide tour to thank members of the All Progressives Congress for their support and to engage with stakeholders across the state's 11 federal constituencies.

Beyond security, Governor Alia revealed plans to construct a new dam with a projected capacity of 460 megawatts, intended to provide water and support electricity generation. He also addressed long-standing tensions over land use and herder-farmer relations, assuring residents that his administration would not establish any ranches in Benue without the people's consent. "Nobody will force us to cede even an inch of our land to the pastoralist for any purpose," he stated.

The Sankera axis, comprising Katsina-Ala, Ukum, and Logo, has frequently faced security challenges. The planned deployment of additional military capacity is therefore seen as particularly significant for the region's residents and communities. The town hall meetings are scheduled to continue across the remaining federal constituencies.
