Berlin CSD attack leaves multiple injured, one dead

An incident on the sidelines of Berlin's Christopher Street Day (CSD) celebration resulted in multiple casualties, including several people with life-threatening injuries, according to police. Florian Nath, a police spokesperson, confirmed the severity of the injuries via X, previously reporting 15 individuals affected.

Tragically, one person succumbed to their injuries, having been critically wounded. Police have launched an extensive operation, deploying a significant number of officers and cordoning off the area between Potsdamer Platz and the southern side of the Tiergarten tunnel. Authorities are actively searching for one or more suspects believed to be involved.

The exact circumstances and motives behind the incident remain unclear. Police stated they had no information regarding the perpetrator's identity or any other specific details shortly before midnight. Some witnesses reported that the individual responsible exited the vehicle carrying a bladed weapon and subsequently attacked individuals. Other accounts describe a person fleeing the vehicle on foot.

In response to the attack, the organizers of the Christopher Street Day, one of Europe's largest LGBTQ+ parades, canceled the remainder of the event, urging attendees to return home. The annual CSD events commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Inn raid in New York City, widely seen as the birth of the modern gay rights movement.
