Berlin Parties Begin Election Campaign with Poster Offensive

Berlin's political parties are kicking off their election campaigns by deploying tens of thousands of posters throughout the capital. This visual campaign offensive signals the start of the intense election period, with just seven weeks remaining until the vote for the Berlin House of Representatives and the twelve district assemblies.

Party members, often joined by their lead candidates, are responsible for affixing the posters to lampposts and other designated locations. The five parties currently represented in the state parliament, along with the FDP and BSW, plan to collectively use nearly a quarter of a million election posters to promote their platforms and candidates.

A notable change this year is the timing of the poster hanging. For the first time, the process is permitted to commence on Sunday at noon, a departure from the traditional midnight start. This adjustment was made possible by a change in the Berlin Street Law, initiated by the governing coalition of the CDU and SPD.

The elections are scheduled for September 20. Following the vote, the campaign posters will be allowed to remain in place for an additional week.
