Berlin techno parade 'Rave The Planet' to go ahead despite attack fears

Berlin's "Rave The Planet" techno parade will take place as scheduled on August 15, organizers announced. The decision comes despite a recent Islamist attack that occurred near the planned route of the demonstration.

Matthias Roeingh, known as Dr. Motte and founder of Rave The Planet, stated that the community's wishes were considered. "The parade will take place," confirmed his wife, Ellen Dosch-Roeingh. They have consulted with the Berlin police, discussing the parade's organization under "new conditions" and making "small adaptations."

"There is no reason from the authorities' perspective and from our perspective not to carry out this demonstration," Dosch-Roeingh added. The parade is planned along the Straße des 17. Juni, between the Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column. Last Saturday, a terrorist attack in the Tiergarten area, adjacent to the Christopher Street Day (CSD) events, resulted in one fatality and 31 injuries. The perpetrator was killed by police.

Last year, "Rave The Planet" drew an estimated 200,000 participants, according to organizers, though Berlin police estimated the crowd at around 100,000. This would be the fifth iteration of the techno parade.
