Bersatu refutes Hadi Awang's accusations on coalition unity

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has strongly denied allegations made by PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, who claimed Bersatu rejected "ummah unity" by opposing other parties' applications to join the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition. Bersatu stated that its position has always been to prioritize electoral cooperation with other parties first, deferring membership considerations to a later stage.

According to a Bersatu statement, this stance was previously decided by PN and reaffirmed in a Supreme Council meeting on May 16, 2026. A committee was established to finalize the terms of electoral cooperation, including seat distribution. Bersatu emphasized that the decision was collective and agreed upon by all members present, aimed at ensuring the strategic interests and overall stability of the PN coalition.

Bersatu expressed regret over Hadi Awang's accusations, asserting that the party adheres to the principle of consultation and discussion within the PN Supreme Council on fundamental matters. The party maintained that it supports all decisions made by the council, which are based on mutual respect, acceptance of differences, and consensus-building to preserve the coalition's unity and strength over the past six years.

The party further noted that it is standard practice within PN for all significant matters concerning policy, direction, and emerging issues to be discussed and decided upon in Supreme Council meetings. Bersatu criticized the practice of challenging or questioning these decisions outside the official platform, suggesting it creates a false impression of a party president holding veto power. Bersatu concluded by stating that PN has overcome numerous political challenges through unity, shared principles, and wise leadership.
